NUAC: Nordic Upper Area Control Centre Project
At the ATC Maastricht Conference 10–11 February 2004, the NUAC Project won the ATC Maastricht Awards in the category “Service Provision”.

NUAC: the four Nordic air navigation service providers aim to create common airspace above FL285. From February 2006, NUAC (likely to be at the new Malmo ATC centre) will be responsible for service provision in upper airspace over Sweden and Denmark. The award is now situated at the NUAC Project office in Malmoe, Sweden.
Background The ATC Maastricht Awards have been presented for several years at the annual industry event in recognition of the contribution to safe skies and efficient airspace management made by members of the industry. There are half a dozen awards that range from tech-nical achievement to service provision and future concepts.
The NUAC project was nominated this year for the service provision award, along with other nominations: Romania' new airspace management system including the new Bucharest centre that went operational in November 2003 DFS of Germany for reducing the number of ATM centres and increasing service continuity NATS/Colin Chisholm for his impact on UK and European air navigation service provision.
Jane's Airport Review called for nominations for the ATC Maastricht Awards in the last quarter of 2003 and received many nominations from various sources - suppliers, airlines, industry specialists. Nominations were then presented to a panel of judges, who represents FAA, Eurocontrol, IATA, CANSO and Jane's Information Group.
